The 2022 Beach Wrestling World Series will kick off its 5-stop strong season on Sarigerme Beach in Ortaca, Turkey, on the last weekend of May.

Five stops confirmed for the new season and the best beach wrestlers will once again take it to the sand across Europe between May and September and the former world championships venue of Ortaca, Turkey, will open the season in two months’ time.

Sarigerme Beach will bring back a lot of good memories to the fans of Beach Wrestling as in 2018 the world champions were crowned in this picturesqueic beach on the Aegean Sea. Following the stop in Turkey, competitors will head toward the north of Spain to Sanxenxo in Galicia. This will be the first time the BWWS has been hosted on Spanish beaches.

Adina Elena Popescu (R) of Romania competes against Charlotte Skauen of Norway during the second and final day of the UWW Beach Wrestling World Championships in Sarigerme, Turkey on October 7, 2018

In the World Series’ most intense year yet, the athletes’ stamina will be put to the test as stop number three and four will be held on back-to-back weekends. The tournaments in Saint Laurent du Var on the Côte d’Azur in France and Katerini, Greece, will provide for beach bustles in July.

During September the Kings and Queens of the beach will be coronated during the final stop of Romania’s magical Mamaia Beach in Constanta. To win the coveted title of Beach Wrestling World Champion both women and men, the wrestlers must accumulate enough points witheve-catching throws and athletic action on the sandy rings throughout the  season.

The change to Turkey was made due to the military conflict in Ukraine as the first stop was set to be hosted in Odessa.
